about

"Reclaiming Fire documents the first musical meeting between free-percussion extraordinaire Pascal Nichols and multi-instrumentalist David McLean. Culling the material from over 3 hours’ worth of jams, the two sessions recorded in the ramshackle space of Hotspur House have yielded an astonishing variety of moods and atmospheres that belie the totally improvised and happenstance nature of their making. Each of the ten cuts that make up the 70 plus minute tropical opus has is its own unique sound world, as the two players coalesce and divide in an ever shifting tapestry of melody and texture. From harsh noise, firebrand sax, gorgeous ambience, haunted chamber music, shimmering subsonics, ethereal loops and off-kilter battery, Nichols and McLean conversation is an attempt to destroy preconceptions and build new alien worlds…much like the charge of an unrelenting fire. The duo can cook and simmer as much as they can employ subtly and restraint, creating a compellingly dramatic foray into deep improvisation. Ritual music for the shamans of Mars. A complete feast for the ear and an astonishingly cohesive offering from a duo just beginning their journey through the forests of psychotropic delight."
