The Bullet Proof Press is a collective of artists and writers exploring the legacy and tradition of Film Noir cinema, Pulp Fiction and Hard-Boiled Crime writing. The first physical release marks the print debut of the collective’s founder, Phil Carney, who through the mediums of both photo collage and short stories perfectly personifies the collective’s aesthetic concerns. Taking inspiration from the likes Chester Himes, Ed McBain and, of course, Chandler and Hammett, Carney’s acidic and searing, straight to the gut prose details lawmen and their obsession with their cases, his characters monologues perfectly pitched to conjure images of gloomy bar rooms, smoke filled alley ways and red glared hotel rooms, delivered with a wry, knowing cynicism and razor sharp on-liners that’ll have you slapping your knee, wishing you’d thought of them. His collage work is just as immediately striking, reconfiguring the iconic film posters of yesteryear into a wholly original and visually arresting new language that hits as hard as the writing. The 12 page booklet is printed, full colour, on 150gsm recycled paper and comes with a free download of Aging's booze soaked sophomore album 'Troubles? I Got A Bartender'.
